Now that I have a grandchild, it’s a little easier to comprehend what my own grandparents must have been going through when Mom and Dad took me halfway around the world. They had airmail, but we have Skype! Here’s little Emmie “on the phone” at 10 weeks. (Yes, I know Katie’s head is missing, but she graciously ceded the camera to the star of the show.)

As my grandmother used to say, you don't pay for your raising until you have children of your own---or in this case, grandchildren or great-grandchildren.

We love SKYPE. My in-laws decided they could no longer make the drive down for Thanksgiving this year and we were able to SKYPE them and talk with them and visit and still be a part of the day. This was great.
